Tidewater SIG Presents:  August Journal Club

Description: Come join the Tidewater SIG Journal Club with host, Katie Fitterer , Article is ragulan-et-al-2022-effects-of-acceptance-and-commitment-training-on-treatment-integrity-amongst-behavioral-technicians

Bio:

Katie Fitterer, M.A., BCBA, is the co-founder of Blossom Behavioral Services and has worked in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis since 2007. After earning her B.A. in Psychology and Anthropology from The College of William and Mary and her M.A. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Ball State University, Katie gained experience across clinic, home, and community-based services before co-founding Blossom in 2018. Katie is passionate about developing meaningful, individualized behavioral goals that align with each learner’s values and quality of life. This interest led her to pursue post-certification training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), integrating ACT principles with behavior analytic practice to support flexible, values-driven behavior change. She is also a Safety-Care Certified Trainer and enjoys helping professionals build compassionate, effective approaches to preventing and de-escalating behavioral crises.

Objectives:

  • Describe the relationship between psychological flexibility, burnout, and treatment integrity, and explain how these variables influenced staff performance in the study.
  • Differentiate between skill deficits and motivational deficits, and identify when Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) may be an appropriate supplement to Behavioral Skills Training (BST).
  • Evaluate the clinical implications and limitations of using ACT to improve treatment integrity among behavior technicians, and discuss potential applications within ABA supervision and staff training.

1 Learning CEU will be offered for this event. You must pre-register and stay for the entire event to earn a CEU. Free CEUs are available to all active VABA members. Students welcome and encouraged!
