Overview:

This exciting and unique role looks for a hard-working and experienced behavior change consultant to train and build the capacity of staff in a District of Columbia Public School in South East Washington, DC. Individual candidates and companies who can provide staff are encouraged to respond. Aligned with the nationally recognized Whole Child Model, the candidate will model and develop the behavior management system, responses, and techniques in the school 4-5 days a week. The Consultant will use ABA-based principles rooted in The Circumstances View approach to behavior change to lead the school-based team in a shift in adult responses to student behavior. You will work closely with, and receive training from, the team who worked to develop the Whole Child Model to ensure that you are confident, and aligned with the approaches as you work with the school. The candidate will be a school-based staff member who is a contractor for Behavior Backup, LLC. The current contract will run for the 2021-2022 school year with the possible option to continue.

Job Duties Include but are not limited to:

-Attendance at initial Whole Child Collaborative Trainings to learn about the Whole Child Model Approach

-Shadow/Receive training from Whole Child Collaborative BCBA Lead

-Create and present professional development trainings for school staff rooted in The Circumstance View and behavior analytic approaches to challenging behavior on professional development days

-Conduct staff observations, and provide written actionable feedback for staff behavior change

-Provide feedback to staff on Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 responses to challenging behavior

-Conduct individual case consults on students with pervasive and persistent interfering behaviors (FBA, BIP, Safety Plans, etc); plans must reflect an understanding of school-based interventions and capabilities

-Create data collection and analysis systems for school-wide behavior data collection and tracking

-Adapting and interpreting ABA/functional behavior assessment and approaches into consumable and applicable language for staff skill acquisition

-Train and Lead team of behavior support assistants who are classroom-based

-Attend IEP and Multidisciplinary Team Meetings as needed

-Provide Parent Training sessions in both group and individual formats

-Develop/write school-wide responses to challenging behavior unique to that school and their needs in collaboration with school leadership team

-Weekly and as-needed check-ins with Whole Child Model BCBA Lead

-Shadow Whole Child Model BCBA Lead at origin school

-Be responsible for lunch, structured recess, greeting duties to model behavior for other staff members

-Provide and perform modeling of verbal de-escalation strategies

Required Qualifications :

-Minimum 5-7 years experience
-Must be a BCBA/BCaBA/BCBA-D or have evidence of comparable work experience
-B.A required; MA preferred in related field
-Must have experience teaching or supporting in the general education setting of public schools
-Experience training and/or coaching adults in behavior management implementation. Previous work in training of teaching staff is highly preferred.
-Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to work independently
-Must be able to work in high intensity environment with a strong work ethic
-Must pass background check and drug screening as required by DC Public Schools

Hours: 8am-4pm School days (School holidays off; see DCPS calendar above)

Days: 4-5 days a week (negotiable)

Preferred Qualifications:

-Interest or experience in trauma-informed education and/or trauma-informed Applied Behavior Analysis
-Work experience in a Title I school
-Familiarity with family facing work with students and families in low socioeconomic areas
-Evidence of working independently with little to no supervision (training and shadowing will be provided but day to day in-person supervision may not occur in the role)
-Excitement to be part of a socio-emotional focus on education
